Born in 1957, Professor
Muhammad is one of the most prominent graduates of the University of Slemani,
College of Literature, Department of Economics, class of 1978.
He is to date, the
highest ranking academic in the University of Slemani among the serving faculty
members of School of Administration and Economics, Department

of Economics. He
was awarded the rank of Professor in 2003 from the University of Slemani after
seven years of fulfilling the requirement of promotion by obtaining Doctorate
of Philosophy in Economics of Railroad Transportation from Al-Mustansiriyah
University, 1996. His academic title was the culmination of a prolonged research
background and publications which started in the mid eighties of the last
century upon obtaining Master’s degree in Economics of Transportation from Al-Mustansiriyah University, 1985.
Being an economist,
fluent in Arabic (the official language in Iraq) and good in English
proficiency, our esteemed professor has a successful professional experience
which started as an economic researcher at the Iraqi Ministry of
Transportation and Communication in Baghdad from 1986 to 1988. In 1988 he started
his long term presence in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research
institutions at the Al-Mustansiriyah University where he became an (Assistant Lecturer), his first academic title. In the same year he was transferred to
the University of Al-Qadisiyah (now Al-Kufa ) where he served as a faculty
member for nine years and completed his academic title promotions to
lecturer, 1992 and Assistant Professor ,1997.
He also lectured at
the University of Salahaddin (Erbil), College of Administration and Economics,
Department of Economics from 1997-1999 before returning back to the
University of Slemani in 1999 when the department of Economics was inaugurated for the first time since the university’s re-establishment in 1992 following
the 1991 uprising in Kurdistan Region and the establishment of the Kurdistan
Regional Government in 1992.
His return to his
Alma Mater, where he served as the Dean of the College of Administration and
Economics was very influential to the course of the study of Economics in
both undergraduate and postgraduate studies because he became one of the
main senior lecturers entitled to supervise and deliver several key modules for postgraduate students in
future Master’s and PhD programs offered by the college.
Since then he had
supervised several Master’s Degree students as well as PhD candidates who are
now serving in both public and private higher education institutions.
Throughout his long term
presence in the field of academia spanning for four decades, Pro. Saeed as a
critical thinking scholar has participated in numerous academic conferences
held by different Iraqi universities. He also attended training courses
inside and outside Iraq. He is also known for his contributions to the economic literature both in his native Kurdish language and Arabic which he
excels despite the fact that it is a second language for Kurds inside Iraq.
In this respect he has so far published four books on economic issues.
He is considered to be one of the most active university lecturers engaged in researching by publishing hundreds of academic articles, papers and studies in various Iraqi journals of economics cited by many Master’s degree and PhD students as original references regarding Iraq and Kurdistan Region’s socioeconomic and political economy’s reality.
His analyses and understanding for current and contemporary issues pertaining Kurdish politics and socioeconomic reality are widely recognized by academic, political and media institutions.
